Skulduggery book 67/5/2023 ![]() ![]() My only real compliant about the narration is that it seemed like Skulduggery’s “voice” would change. I loved the musical accompaniment, especially for Skulduggery’s scenes. The audiobook for this story was excellent. From this first book it seems like these characters have stories of their own and I’m very interested in finding out more about them. For some reason she reminds me of Tonks from Harry Potter. ![]() I must say she sounds older than 12, but I didn’t mind because I really liked the chemistry and dialogue between these two. ![]() Stephanie is a 12 year old girl, who basically inherited her uncle’s problems upon his death. What’s even more awesome is that his partner, Stephanie, is just as cool and witty. He’s a witty, snarky, badass crime-solving bastard. ![]() Skulduggery is as cool and awesome as his name implies. The story is of Skulduggery Pleasant who is a walking, talking magic wielding skeleton. The cover of the book looked hokey and the description didn’t do much for me, but I was pleasantly surprised when I started listening that it was actually a fun, intelligent read. I really love this program because I end up listening to stuff that I otherwise wouldn’t have picked up on my own. This book is another free gem I got off the YA Sync Summer Audio Program. ![]()

The book does not read like historical fiction. McCullough began working on the novel long before #MeToo, but the parallels are hard to ignore. But the book also recounts Gentileschi’s early years, when she was a promising artist who finished her father’s paintings, craved a mentor, and toiled under the patriarchal thumb. (Women could not do so at the time.) That trial forms the center of McCullough’s narrative we learn how Gentileschi was tortured to confirm that her story was true. ![]() When she was seventeen, Gentileschi was raped by her painting instructor, who was put on trial, in 1612, after her father pressed charges. ![]() In each city I visited, I picked flowers to place between the pages where Gentileschi deserved the love women so rarely find when telling violent truths. I happened to read the book while travelling. Gentileschi was an accomplished artist-the first woman accepted to the Florence fine-arts academy-and McCullough’s tribute to her is written entirely in free verse. Last year, I picked up “ Blood Water Paint,” Joy McCullough’s haunting début novel, which is about the Renaissance painter Artemisia Gentileschi. ![]() The snow spider by jenny nimmo7/3/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Keating spins the tale in a similar way his mastery may well convince readers that this fictional world is real. The Snow Spider TV Series 2020 IMDb RATING 8. The first and most helpful is the snow spider, Arianwen, who spins webs that allow Gywn to peer into other worlds. It is Nain who gives Gwyn five gifts for his ninth birthday, each a small object that he must "give to the wind" in order to receive strange and magical things in return. Jenny Nimmo's award-winning SNOW SPIDER TRILOGY is back as an exciting Orchard Books fantasy series On Gwyn's 9th birthday, his grandmother tells him he may be a magician, like his Welsh. He easily ranges from the boy's excitement and anticipation to the wavery voice of his eccentric grandmother, Nain. Keating's reading of the tale is flawless. At the center of this adventure, Gwyn sets out on a journey to find his sister, who disappeared on a nearby mountain, without a trace, on the day Gwyn turned five. Available Ready for despatch or collection within 5 - 7 days. Though this first volume of a trilogy takes place in present-day Wales, the past is alive, especially when nine-year-old Gwyn realizes that he may have the powers of his namesake, a magician from centuries ago.
